As well as sketchbooks, Hoyland also kept scrapbooks in which he’d stick polaroids and photos taken on his frequent travels. The magpie in him always had a great eye for a potential Hoyland, be it the marble floor in his hotel bathroom, a particularly vivid Jamaican sunset, a stained or cracked pavement or heavily graffitied wall. There are also postcards and newspaper or magazine cuttings, photocopies and colour drawings done on loose sheets of paper.
